Summer Governor's School students will participate in a variety of classroom experiences, field trips and projects in the area of Science and Technology. Along with these events, the students of the SWCC Governor's School will be earning seven college credits.
About the Governor's School
The SWCC Governor's Summer School for Science & Technology has been devised to meet the needs of students in the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell. The school operates on a non-resident basis and is three weeks in duration Five lead faculty members, recruited, screened and selected by the School's Governing Board, provide for instructional experiences in the areas of Technology, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Engineering Sciences.
More than thirty-five enrollees, selected from area high schools are divided into three groups of twelve students each. The incorporation of visiting lecturers of national eminence, coupled with capstone field activities, counseling and career mentoring experiences lend considerable dynamism to the effort. Students participating in the SWCC Governor's School for Science and Technology receive seven college credits which may be applied to their program of study at SWCC or may transfer to other colleges and universities
