About the Governor's School

The SWCC Governor's Summer School for Science & Technology has been devised to meet the needs of students in the Virginia counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell. The school operates on a non-resident basis and is three weeks in duration Five lead faculty members, recruited, screened and selected by the School's Governing Board, provide for instructional experiences in the areas of Technology, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Engineering Sciences.

More than thirty-five enrollees, selected from area high schools are divided into three groups of twelve students each. The incorporation of visiting lecturers of national eminence, coupled with capstone field activities, counseling and career mentoring experiences lend considerable dynamism to the effort.
