Students Met Actors Bill Pullman and Pam Grier at the RiverRun Film Festival

May 6th, 2008

By Justin Trout, Sophomore

On April 23rd, students from the Multi-Media Club gathered outside of Buchanan Hall for the departure to the RiverRun Film festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I was fortunate enough to be one of the students who participated in this exciting event.

While there, we had the opportunity to meet actor Bill Pullman, who had starred in such films as Independence Day, Casper, Lake Placid and many others, and also actor Pam Grier, who had appeared in films such as Mars Attacks, Foxy Brown and Jackie Brown.

Films played all week at different places throughout the small town. And to get from each place we had to call shuttles to pick us up and carry us to our destinations. We stayed in the Hawthorne Inn, which was very hospitable and generous to our needs.

We had the opportunity to see Helen Hunt’s directorial debut titled, Then She Found Me. The movie is about a woman experiencing a mid-life crises and considering a last ditch effort to have a child of her own. While doing so and all on the same day, she finally meets her birth mother, gets a divorce and meets someone else.  The movie is funny but has moments that are sure to make you feel sad by the end.

The festival showcased a number of great documentaries and movies featuring scenes of love and happiness, as well as pain and death.

Anyone interested in joining the Multi-Media Club should join us at our next meeting. The club meets every Thursday at 12:10 p.m. and is always looking for new members.
